Marvin's Room Inspires Wave Of Remixes And Covers From Independent Artists

Posted on June 29, 2011 at 3:28 PM

For immediate release:

The debut of Drake's music video for his single "Marvin's Room" coincided with the release of several high-profile remixes of the track by artists like Teyana Taylor, JoJo, and Chris Brown, giving the internet the chance to debate "who wore it best?".  Following suit is a wave of independent artists capitalizing on the trend by adding their own twist to the introspective hit.  Some artists are changing the theme of the song like Alaskan singer JR Aquino who promises his current girl that he'll 'be better,' while Jersey City electrohop group Triangle Offense follows Drake's lead by rapping very honest verses about the feelings of love lost and chances missed.

Triangle Offense member Bry shares a relatable moment when he raps, "What about "us" being "we" again? / I thought I'd never see again, the "R" on the BBM / But since that "D" turned to an "R" / That means you wanna see if I could be where you are."  The trio released their remix for free download alongside their own music video on YouTube as part of their weekly promotional series dubbed TOTuesdays.

The video, currently being buzzed about on social networks, is done in a style similar to Brooklyn based  Francis and The Lights's recent release for his song "Eiffel Tower," featuring the song's lyrics over glimpses of the night they describe.  'And The Lights' frontman Francis Starlite produced the song "Karaoke" from Drake's 2010 debut Thank Me Later.

A YouTube search for "Marvin's Room Remix" currently brings up 7,350 results and counting, giving fans of the Drake original a chance to discover new artists they may have missed out on.
